Day Trips From Nice

If you are based in Nice but wish to venture further afield for the day, then you are in luck. There are a great selection of day trips to suit almost every taste, from boat trips to jazz festivals, you are sure to be able to find the perfect excursion within just a few miles of the city.

If you need a break from the hustle and bustle of Nice, then a visit to the idyllic island of Sainte-Marguerite is a must. Just an hour away by ferry, the island has a tranquil atmosphere and can be easily explored on foot.

Amongst the island’s pines and eucalyptuses you will find the imposing fortress prison of Fort Royal. In the 17th century the mystery prisoner ‘The Man in the Iron Mask’ was incarcerated here for a time. Today the prisoners are long gone, the prison now housing a museum and youth hostel. The ferry leaves Nice at 9.00am and returns at 6.00pm.

Nestled on the coast between Cannes and Nice is the pretty town of Juan les Pins. The summer vacation destination of Peter Sarstedt’s lovely, modern Juan les Pins is the home of the annual Jazz Festival. Held every July it has become one of the cultural highlights of the French Riviera. Nightclubs, casinos and beautiful beaches all add to Juan les Pins charm and the choice of bus or rail travel from Nice means you can experience all it has to offer in a day trip.

A stay in Nice would not be complete without sampling the famed local cuisine. To sample the best Provence has to offer, a trip to the countryside outside Nice is recommended. A 40 minute drive will take you to the historic villages of Fayence, Montauroux and Callian. Here you will have a chance to sample the delicious local delicacies in relaxed surroundings before returning to the city.

Many more treasures are waiting to be discovered just a stone’s throw from Nice, so it’s time to get out there and enjoy all the Riviera has to offer.
